Veterinarians have been added to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL)

Update: 16 June 2021

On 8 May 2021, Minister Alex Hawke announced that the occupation of Veterinarian has been added to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL). This decision was made following strong industry feedback to include veterinarians in the PMSOL due to national shortage.

Currently there are only 19 occupations in the PMSOL and the list is based on expert advice from the National Skills Commission and consultation with Commonwealth departments on the critical skills needed to support Australia’s economic recovery from Covid-49.

The inclusion of Veterinarians in the PMSOL means priority processing for employer sponsored visas:

  • Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)
  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)

More importantly, applicants applying for visas offshore are also eligible to apply for individual travel exemptions to enter Australia on the basis that their occupation is in the PMSOL.
