Terms and Conditions
- The theme for Heartlands 2023 is Homeland and Belonging
- AMES Australia is seeking submissions from authors, poets, songwriters and performers in the form of written prose related to the themes of homeland and belonging
- Submissions are sought from anyone identifying as CALD and currently living in Australia
- The word limit for submissions is 1000 words
- From the submissions a number will be shortlisted and collated into a small book / booklet to be published late 2023
- The number of shortlisted works will be determined based on length and capacity to fit within the book / booklet format
- There will be a winner selected from the shortlisted works. The winner will receive a prize of $1000 and will be invited to orate or perform their piece at a launch event in late October, 2023
- 2nd and 3rd place will also be selected from the shortlisted works and the winners of these prizes will be invited to orate or perform their piece at a launch event in late October, 2023.
- 2nd place will receive $750, and 3rd place will receive $500
- Other shortlisted writers may be invited to orate or perform their piece at the launch event. Not all writers will be invited to perform, but will be invited to attend the launch
- All shortlisted writers will receive a copy of the publication
- Each writer retains all copyright in relation to their piece and free to publish it elsewhere
- AMES Australia will hold the licence to publish all shortlisted pieces, and to republish if stocks run out
- Revenue from any sales of the book / booklet will go to associated printing costs and AMES Australia’s deductible gift recipient fund and no profit will be made
- AMES Australia reserves the right to reproduce any shortlisted work for the purposes of promoting Heartlands 2023 (and future Heartlands events for the purposes of engaging artists)
- Entries close at 5pm on 25 August 2023
- Shortlisted writers and winner will be advised by 11 September 2023
