Lily the Volunteer: Introduction to volunteering for CALD volunteers is a free resource with the overall aim of introducing volunteering to members of CALD communities. There is a focus on learning the English associated with the volunteer sector.
As learners work through the materials, either as individuals or as groups, being assisted by a trainer, it is hoped they will feel positive about and better informed about engaging as a volunteer.
The power point presentation introduces volunteerism in Australia and is supported by learner resources.
The five units of work follow the journey of Lily as she chooses, applies for and engages as a volunteer. Each unit has resources, worksheets and audio files to support the unit focus.
Lily the Volunteer: Introduction to volunteering for CALD volunteers comprises:
- Lily the Volunteer Introduction - Power point presentation, worksheets
- Unit 1: Getting Started - Learner worksheets and audio files
- Unit 2: Making Contact - Learner worksheets and audio files
- Unit 3: First Day - Learner worksheets and audio files
- Unit 4: Overcoming Obstacles - Learner worksheets and audio files
- Unit 5: Reflections - Learner worksheets
- Appendix - Training resources
Although each unit could be used as a stand-alone, the learner would benefit most by completing all units as a course.
The resource is suitable for all participants from CALD backgrounds who are interested in being a volunteer, learners from Adult ESL, Access Education, VET and foundation skills.
Many of the activities can be mapped to address competencies of accredited courses.
